2019 - Race Unity Day Talk

Dr. Gregory P. Meyjes addresses an audience on Race Unity Day with a talk on "envisioning race unity" at the downtown library.

Approximately 80 people attended an afternoon presentation at the Juliette Hampton Morgan Library on the topic of race unity. Dr. Gregory Paul Meyjes spoke for around an hour and answered questions for 45 minutes. A linguist and cultural scholar as well as a member of the Bahá’í faith, Dr. Meyjes stressed the importance of prioritizing the oneness of humanity in our encounters with one another while appreciating culture – in all its diversity – as a foundation of identity. He encouraged those interested in the work of race unity to be active in their efforts to appreciate these two aspects of the other and to also focus on civic and social realizations of racially unifying actions. The majority of the audience voiced intentions to work together on actions outlined and to be outlined.
